The US Congress recently passed a Continuing Resolution that extends the EB-5 Regional Center Program through January 19, 2018. This temporary extension did not enact any changes to the EB-5 program.
Major changes to the EB-5 program are coming soon though. Congress is working on an EB-5 reform bill, which—if passed—is all but guaranteed to raise the required investment amount, among other changes. There is broad agreement that the current investment amount of $500,000 for a Regional Center investment is too low, since it has remained unchanged since 1990 and has not kept pace with inflation.
Unfortunately, if Congress does not act, USCIS has announced that it will take matters into its own hands, dramatically increasing the investment amount (from $500,000 to $1.35 million). This announcement is likely designed to pressure Congress into taking appropriate action.
Given the coming changes to the EB-5 program, if you’re an individual who’s interested in obtaining a Green Card for yourself and your family, I urge you to act now.
